Here's the perfect solution for isolating your handheld solid state sound recorder from unwanted vibrations -  either from handling or stand-borne noise - as well as protecting its microphones from outdoor wind noise. Our PRAK-1 Portable Recorder Audio Kit is effectively a combined Windshield and Suspension solution, and it made for us by Rycote, one of the world's leading microphone accessory manufacturers. It is aimed at journalists, film-makers, or anyone using a handheld digital recorder to make professional-quality audio recordings outdoors. It can be used for location film/TV soundtracks or outside broadcast and radio reporting, or for simple audio podcasts.

The PRAK-1's suspension fits any portable recorder with a 1/4" female thread. The suspension can then be mounted on a standard 3/8" male thread on a mic stand or boom pole, or be attached to a camera's hot shoe using the included hot shoe adaptor.  Its 180° swivel allows for easy orientation of the recorder so it can point in the exact direction of the speaker.

The soft foam pistol grip fits comfortably in the hand minimizing fatigue when held for long periods. It is made of high quality Kraton rubber with extra soft gel inserts and has a slip-free surface for a secure grip and ergonomic shape for a very comfortable hand position.

Your PG3 neatly folds away so that it can easily be stored in your kit bag, and the robust pistol grip will last many years under the harsh TV and film production environment.

The "Whisper" Windshield

When we researched enclosed microphone windshield systems, it was clear to us that Reinhardt offered the best designed wind-gags in the marketplace. Their “Whisper” series is most definitely superior to other more widely available designs, with better top-end performance.

Available for pistol, boom and camera mounted microphones, the Reinhardt "Whisper" is hand made in Denmark by Danish craftsmen to exacting specifications, ensuring perfect performance and reliability.

It is beautifully finished with acoustically transparent silver gray synthetic fur and a soft leather trim.

The HW (Hi-Wind) versions we sell have proven to be effective with gusts of 10m/s (22MPH) reducing the wind noise by up to 18dB.

Reinhardt's Soft-Zep 2 is a simple, low-cost and lightweight all-in-one windshield, grip and furry cover for your shotgun microphone. Unlike some solutions, Soft-Zep 2 is simplicity itself. There are none of the fiddly balancing acts of some systems where you have to fit your delicate microphone into cradles and suspensions, then hope the windshield fits over it all properly, and so on.

With Soft-Zep 2 you just slide your shotgun mic into the hole in the open cell foam core at the back of the windshield and you're done. Furthermore, once fitted, your microphone is completely protected against high wind whilst minimising high frequency attenuation, so you do not suffer from a lack of top end in your recordings as often happens with some other windshields.

The Soft-Zep 2 is ultra lightweight (only 390gms) and ultra robust. Its grip is made from Kraton rubber with soft gel inserts for a really comfortable hand-holding experience over many hours on set.

Rode SM4 Suspension Mount

The Rode DeadCat Wind-Gag

The aptly (if unfortunately) named RODE DeadCat provides adequate wind protection for the Rode NTG-1 & NTG-2 short shotgun mics. It is designed to be fitted like a sleeve over the foam windshield provided with your NTG1 or 2. For use in windy conditions, is claimed to be acoustically transparent to ensure the only thing you eliminate is the wind noise. The Rode SM4 Suspension

The RODE SM4 is a shockmount suspension designed for the RODE NTG-1 & NTG-2 microphones. It may also be used with any microphone with similar dimensions. The microphone fits through and is gripped by the centre cross points of the four rubber suspension rings, and is thus isolated from any hard surfaces. It is therefore ideal when the microphone is used on a stand or boom (should not be used with Reinhardt PG3 Pistol Grip).

The AT8801 provides 48V phantom power for a single microphone. It is an in-line powered device that allows the use of remote-powered microphones with recorders and other devices that do not supply phantom power.

• Highly regulated power supply provides a constant voltage source, even with a heavily loaded input
• The regulator IC is internally protected to prevent overheating even if shorted
• The rugged steel case is finished in enamel and provides shielding from electrostatic interference
• Includes a plug-in AC power module* that attaches to the AT8801 with a 6" cable
