MICRO PLAYER
SUGGESTED APPLICATIONS

Here are just a few jobs for your Micro Player...

  • In Public Places: Broadcast messages, warnings, directions, assistance, etc.

  • On Buses, Boats, Trains & Planes: Provide commentary, music, notifications, etc.

  • In Museums & Exhibitions: Provide descriptions, sound effects, background information, etc.

  • In Hotels & Health Clubs: Use one player per zone for varied backgound music

  • In Factories: play alarm messages on defective status detection.

MAIN FEATURES

  • Simple yet powerful SD Card MP3 Player for commercial use

  • Four electrical input contacts to trigger MP3 files (15 when binary combined)

  • Line level phono outputs

  • Infra-red detector for external remote control

  • USB link to update SD card

  • RS232 serial link

  • External 12v PSU

  • Volume, treble & bass settings

  • One third rack size

  • 2 x 20w integrated amplifier
The Micro Player has a built-in 2 x 20 watt power amplifier which is sufficient for most small and medium sized environments. Its line level phono outputs may also be fed to a more powerful external amplifier for larger premises, if need be.

  • Low Power Mode
When a Micro Player is configured to be in lower power mode its power consumption is less than 1mA. This delivers long term autonomy when powered on a battery topped up by solar energy, for example.

  • Optional 19" x 1U rack adaptor to fit up to three Micro Players
The Micro Player is a flexible audio source device which can be used as a stand-alone unit or in 19" racks. The casing is designed in a 1/3rd rack width format to allow up to three Micro Players to be fitted side-by-side in the optional 19" x 1U rack mount adaptor.

Interactive MP3 Player for Announcements, Background Music, Commentary, Effects and Narration

Here's a simple, robust and reliable way of getting your message across - the Micro Player. Whilst the majority of our solid state sound offerings are recorders designed for digital audio acquisition, here's a device that will replay your recordings in a host of common applications (see panel left).

The highly versatile Micro Player is specifically designed for installations where the broadcast of sounds, music, commentaries, messages and announcements is required either in a pre-defined playback mode (preset) or in an interactive mode (controllable by external devices like push-button switches).

MP3 audio files are stored on SD memory cards using any file manager (e.g. Explorer on a PC, Finder on a Mac). A seven digit code, inserted in audio file and directory names provides powerful automation of the playback programme. The naming of the files actually determines the broadcast pattern - for instance, which input starts the file, if it can be interrupted and the next action when it ends.

Whilst audio files on the Micro Player can be triggered in many and various ways, the most popular usage by our customers is for the delivery of a choice of audio information at exhibitions and in museums. Typically in these applications visitors are presented with labelled buttons on the exhibit - these may be language choices or commentary options - and by pressing the appropriate button they can listen to information about the exhibit in their chosen language or their chosen section of the commentary.

The Micro Player can make this kind of thing happen very easily and inexpensively. Take a look at the Micro Player QUICK START GUIDE and OWNERS MANUAL for further comprehensive details.

Main Functions

Autoplay

Playback automatically starts on powering your Micro Player on. This is configurable.

Interactivity

The playback of files is triggered when one of the input contacts is activated. An activation command (a 'trigger') can be sent using a choice of three methods:

  • 4 contact closures can be 'made' via a simple push button or other type of switch (e.g. pressure mat). In this way one can trigger up to 15 choices of file using binary combination.

  • RS232 serial link

  • Infra-red remote control

Playback Mode

Four playback modes are available: Loop, Play Once & Stop, Random or Pre-defined Order. It is also possible to allow or disallow file interruption.

RS232 Link

The Micro Player's serial control function enables it to be very versatile...

  • In Daisy Chain Mode the serial out-Tx of one Micro Player is linked to the serial in-Rx of the next one and so on... orders (triggers) are transmitted in the chain of players and each player can be addressed individually. Up to 127 Micro Players can be controlled through one serial link.

  • In Monitoring Mode status data are sent to the serial outTx (e.g. start/stop status, volume changes, USB mode, etc.). In security situations the Micro Player's status can therefore be monitored by a controller.

For larger systems three Micro Player units can be housed in the optional 19" rackmount adaptor.
