Premium Grade Hand-Held Professional Solid State Recorder

Of all the hand-held style solid state sound recorders they offer, Tascam's DR-100 is their best, and now here is the improved Mark 2 version. Designed for professional and commercial recording in the field, the DR-100 Mk2 offers high-quality recording directly in WAV or MP3 format from a rugged metal chassis. You can choose between two pairs of built-in uni-directional (cardioid) and omni-directional microphones, as well as XLR mic inputs with switchable 48V phantom power, plus a mini jack line input. The Mark 2 version also adds a digital input (SPDIF), a feature not available in the Mark 1. This ensures that virtually all fields of use are covered – from music, speech and atmosphere recordings to meeting minutes and live concert recordings.

The recording levels can easily be controlled by a twin hardware control (ganged potentiometers) rather than the more fiddly menu option provided on many other recorders. Recordings can be started manually, automatically by level, advanced (buffered by up to 2 seconds), delayed (to prevent key presses from being recorded) or with the help of the included remote control. A switchable mini-loudspeaker for playback is also included. You can make overdubs, manually create a new file during recording, divide a recording and use location markers. The unit is further equipped with switchable automatic analogue gain control with limiter, a three-frequencies switchable low-cut filter, headphones output, wired remote connector and USB connector (for downloads).

The DR-100 comes with a 2GB SD card, wireless remote control, foam windshield and soft case and can be powered either by the included lithium-ion rechargeable, two easily-available AA batteries, and optional battery pack (BP-6AA) or an optional AC adapter (PS-P520). The built-in mic stand screw socket allows the unit to be mounted on a tripod or microphone stand.

*We do not advise using the larger cards unless absolutely necessary because you will lose a huge amount of valuable data if the card is physically mislaid (quite easy because they are very small!) or should the card become corrupted (rare, but it can happen). Far better to use the smallest practical card size for your needs (usually 2Gb or 4Gb), and just buy several of them to interchange. Much, much safer!
