The Marantz PMD661 is essentially an update to
their popular PMD660 - what we named
the "Recording Brick" because of its chunky shape and size. Whilst the
PMD661 is a similar shape, it is just a little bit smaller that its
predecessor, so not such a brick after all. And it is claimed to be more
robust too. The Marantz PMD661 incorporates a wide range of technical
advances and convenience features that help it excel in virtually any
application. Big enough to accommodate dual XLR microphones and light
enough for handheld use, the PMD661 offers good recording quality in
most locations.
For field applications like electronic news gathering, sound capture on
location and music recording, the PMD661 provides the audio precision of
24-bit, 96 kHz digital recording. Its resolution and file-based
architecture makes it good for high quality stereo recording of music
and sound effects in the field, while true mono recording and lower bit
rates make it equally appropriate for meetings, conferences, legal
proceedings and podcasts. The ergonomic control panel, one-touch
transport system and large, bright OLED display make it easy for both
seasoned pros and first-time users to record with confidence. This
portable solid-state recorder uses readily available SD or SDHC media
cards, and gets over five hours of operation from four AA alkaline
batteries. We also offer various choices of rechargeable batteries and
chargers for the PMD661.
From inputs to output, for recording, editing and
playback, the Marantz PMD661 packs a wealth of functionality in a
compact, ergonomic package. With full support for professional
microphones, comprehensive record, playback and editing capabilities at
a mid-market price, the PMD661 puts the future of field recording in the
palm of your hand.
FEATURES
• High Resolution
Digital Recording
The PMD661 records directly onto SD
or SDHC solid-state media, providing hours of reliable digital capture
with no moving parts. Choose from 44.1, 48 or 96 kHz sample rates at 16-
or 24-bit quantization, creating either .WAV (BWF) file or MP3 files at
a choice of multiple bit rates. Upgraded mic preamps and input level
control assure full performance from outboard mics, and both stereo and
true mono recording are supported.
• Professional Hardware
From input to output, the PMD661 offers
full-featured, professional hardware. Two mic/line switchable XLR inputs
accept outboard microphones, while the S/PDIF input handles digital
transfers. The XLR inputs can provide full 48V phantom microphone power,
and exceptional onboard preamps assure exceptional performance. In
addition, two high quality condenser mics and stereo speakers are fully
integrated into the body, while a rugged ¼-inch headphone jack with
volume control accepts professional headphones. Finally, a USB 2.0 port
makes file makes file transfers a breeze – just connect the PMD661 to
any computer and drag and drop to your desktop.
• Ergonomic Design
The large, easy-view OLED display on the PMD661 front panel provides
at-a-glance system status, with multifunction buttons under the display
screen that prompt the user through recording, editing and file marking
with ease. The one-touch transport system makes recording, playback, and
transcription operations intuitive and straightforward. Tracking audio
levels is easy with the 10-segment LED meter, cleverly angled for easy
viewing from the front or the top.
• Editing and Playback
Features
Whether monitoring audio, editing digital files or transcribing, the
PMD661 offers a full range of tools to assist you. Copy Segment and File
Divide functions allow instant field editing. In addition, the included
PMD Mark Editor software provides extensive editing functions on PC for
immediate distribution. A lithium battery tracks real time, allowing
Timer Record and Timer Playback. Transcription functions include
playback pitch control and user-definable skipback.
• Rugged Portability
The size, weight and construction of the PMD661 are carefully designed
to provide lightweight portability, tabletop stability and field-worthy
ruggedness. Four AA alkalines provide over five hours of record time,
and NiMH rechargeables are also accommodated. The case is made from
high-impact ABS plastic with metal faceplate, and the XLR and headphone
jacks are ruggedized for field use. The PMD661 also features an integral
tripod adapter, allowing it to be mounted on camera tripods or mics
stands.
